Conference Week 30: If only every league were like the Conference

It's been a while since I managed to get the Conference stats together so apologies to those of you waiting for that.

The Conference has now, more-or-less, reached week 30, although the games in hand do mean that some of the stats need to be taken with a little more awareness of the differences in number of games played. So I've had to stretch the tables to include the per game rates for shots and shots on target - those might be better for making comparisons rather than the absolute totals.

But, it really does seem to be fitting quite nicely into the better teams at generating shots succeeding, and the worse teams, not. It is essential to remember that the difference in games played has a big say here, but just looking at the data indicates the league coming together fairly nicely.

It's noticeable that Barnet are (at least until now) far and away the best team in the division, something reflected in their lofty position.
And it is encouraging to see the next two best teams (in terms of producing shots on target at least) in the playoffs too.
Forest Green have also managed to sneak in to the playoff berths thanks to an above average PDO and despite having worse (although still creditable) stats than a couple of other teams.
Macclesfield however are the only team really well out of position. They are in the playoffs purely on PDO. Going on this data it would seem rather a long shot that they maintain their promotion push throughout the second half of the campaign and I would expect them to fall back into midtable pretty quickly.

And it's also reassuring to see the five worst teams in the division occupying the five bottom spots in the league. Nuneaton have been horribly burned by PDO, but even so they are still a well below average team according to the data here. It could be an almighty scrap to avoid relegation between those five.

Finally, I've also put the comparative graphs of points vs shot share, shots on target share, and PDO at the bottom.
While some of these correlations are particularly strong, it is important to remember here that these totals are from the unequal number of games that have been played - and with some teams three or four games behind (10% of the fixtures so far) that is a quite substantial spread.
